Case Preparation Guide
After collecting your parts, you will need to begin the case preparation.
The first thing you will need to do is remove the sides of the case. This is done by removing the four to six screws on the back of the case. Make sure that you place these screws someplace where you will not loose them. Once the screws are removed you can slide the cover off the chassis. On some cases the cover is all in one piece and on others the sides are separate. Read the booklet that came with your case to be sure what exactly what you need to do.
Once the cover has been removed from your new case you will probably see a plastic bag containing the parts that came with your case. These should consist of screws, standoffs for the motherboard installation, and feet for the bottom of the case. Again check the booklet that came with your case for an exact inventory and make sure that you have all the parts.
The next step in case preparation is to clean out the inside of the case. Take some compressed air or a dust rag and remove all dirt and dust from the case. Also, make sure that all fans and the power supply are free of dirt and anything that could block there proper operation.
The next thing you should do is install the feet on the bottom of the case. Some new cases will already have this step completed for you.
The last step in case preparation is to free up the drive bays for any external drives you have. Many new cases come with a metal shield installed over the drive bays and PCI slots. If your case is configured this way you will need to remove the covers for any drives or PCI cards (modem, network, video) that you will be installing. The covers can usually be removed by bending the metal back and forth until it breaks. These covers will probably have sharp edges once removed so be careful not to cut yourself.
Once you have completed these steps you are ready for the motherboard preparation guide.
